Around the streets of West Bengal it is fairly common to see many adolescents working for a very low wage. Whilst youngsters may be forced (voluntarily/involuntarily) to work because they need to financially support their families, another possible contributory factor is, that these youngsters have failed to obtain the necessary grades to get into higher education. Without higher education it is impossible to get a well-paid job.

Identifying that youngsters, who have failed to get the grades, are neglected, there was a great need to help them. A school designed to train specific skills such as computers, cooking, and handicrafts, etc, will give youngsters a better future – a chance to secure a paid job or maybe a chance to set up their own business! Such a technical school is currently under construction in Bakeswar beside the Girls’ Orphanage. The technical school will have the capacity to train 50 youngsters a specific skill. Completion is expected to be towards the latter part of 2003.
